Hosted by the Loppet Foundation, the Utepils Trail Loppet returns for its rugged, urban celebration at Theodore Wirth Park—Minneapolis’s largest regional green space. This popular fall trail run brings together a Half Marathon, 10K (“Half-Half”), and 5K, finishing with a festive gathering at Utepils Brewing.
Launched to expand the Loppet’s signature winter skiing heritage into summertime trail running, the event has evolved into a distinct highlight—combining hilly singletrack, ski trails, and paved pathways that thread through bogs, woods, and open fields. With the Half Marathon starting at 8:30 AM, followed by the 10K at 9:30 AM and 5K at 10:30 AM, runners experience an authentic trail challenge: winding climbs, technical sections, and varied terrain throughout the course.
Aid stations—four on the half, two on the 10K, and one on the 5K—offer hydration and snacks, ensuring solid support across the distance offerings . Post-race, participants are treated to music, snacks, and a free Utepils beer (21+) at the finish line, creating a festive urban trail atmosphere.
What sets this Loppet apart is its urban meets wild vibe: only minutes from downtown yet entirely immersed in wooded parkland. It’s ideal for trail lovers seeking technical terrain without the drive, and an appealing festival finish adds local flavor. Supported by the Loppet Foundation’s community mission, this event also offers free youth or Indigenous registrations, furthering inclusivity.
