Overview

Held annually in Idaho Falls, ID, the Scenic River Classic is the region’s oldest running tradition, dating back to 1988 when it began as the Bridge to Braves Fun Run. Now organized by Live Forward Performance, the event returns on Saturday, June 14, 2025, offering a half marathon, 10K, and 5K to support Development Workshop, Inc.—a nonprofit aiding adults with disabilities.

The half marathon begins at 7:30 AM along the scenic Snake River Parkway and Greenbelt Trail. This out-and-back course follows the river’s calm waters, features sights of a 22-foot waterfall, and winds through several parks and riverfront neighborhoods. With minimal elevation change (staying between ~4,665–4,736 ft), this mostly-flat paved trail is a prime route for fast times and comfortable pacing.

Aid stations appear every few miles with water and fuel, and participants can expect quick and accurate chip-timing, thanks to the experienced Live Forward team. Post-race, enjoy views of Snake River Landing’s shops, cafes, and outdoor spaces—all wrapped in a supportive, community-first atmosphere.

Runners praise the scenic course, and while reviews are sparse, the trail’s beauty and organization receive consistently positive notes. As one race guide calls it, “Eastern Idaho’s premier running event”.

Why You’ll Love It

  1. Riverfront Calm: A serene, mostly flat route along the Snake River’s scenic greenbelt.
  2. Fast and Friendly: Tight course, supportive crowd, and prime conditions for a PR.
  3. Trail-to-Urban Transition: Park trails, waterfall backdrop, and city-side amenities.
  4. Heartfelt Purpose: Proceeds benefit adults with disabilities—run with purpose.
  5. Community Heritage: As Eastern Idaho’s longest-standing race, it combines tradition with quality production.

Course Description

Runners will start the race at Snake River Landing near BBSI. The course then heads along the Snake River on the Idaho Falls Greenbelt Trail, which you’ll remain on for the next several miles as you make your way north along the west banks of the river. After running through Russ Freeman Park, the route will take you back along the east side of the river all the way back to Snake River Landing. The three courses will all overlap some but will be marked by different colored arrow stickers on the ground. Corners will be manned by volunteers as available. The start and finish line will be the same.
