Overview

What began in 2018 as a local fundraising initiative has quickly blossomed into Manistee’s premier lakeshore racing festival. The Run the Pier Running Festival now attracts over 500 runners annually across its 5K, 10K, half-marathon, and full marathon events, all organized by NOMI Racing with proceeds supporting local nonprofits like Stomp Out Cancer of Manistee.

The chip-timed half marathon starts at 8:00 am EDT, launching from Duffy Park in downtown Manistee, winding along scenic Lake Michigan’s shoreline drive, and featuring a unique stretch onto the iconic north pier and lighthouse before looping back. The route is mostly flat to gently rolling, offering picturesque water views, forested sections, and smooth pavement—ideal for pace-focused runners or those seeking a calm lakeside morning.

Aid stations and volunteers dot the course, and post-race participants enjoy an event T-shirt, medal, refreshments, and beer with proceeds benefiting charity. Runners hail from across the region, drawn by the festive atmosphere, lakeside vistas, and authentic community spirit.

What sets this half apart from other waterfront runs is the pier experience—literally running out over Lake Michigan—combined with a midsummer festival feel. It’s a destination-worthy race with minimal fuss, maximum charm, and meaningful impact through local giving.
