Overview

Join fellow runners on Sunday, November 9, 2025, for the Run For Rangers Half Marathon in Dahlonega, GA—a unique event honoring U.S. Army Rangers. This flagship race is part of a weekend-long celebration, including a 5K and 10K on November 8, plus a “Ranger Challenge” combining multiple distances for an added feat of endurance.

The half marathon starts at 11:30 AM EST at Camp Frank D. Merrill, tracing rugged forestry roads and service trails used by Ranger trainees. The off-road route runs near the Appalachian Trail, features two steep hills, and traverses terrain identical to what Army Rangers themselves train on—designed to challenge without overwhelming seasoned runners. Parking and amenities are available at Camp Merrill, and refreshments, food, beer, and wine await finishers at the adjacent service club.

What distinguishes Run For Rangers is its military heritage, rugged terrain, and community-rich Veterans Day backdrop. The race weaves into Dahlonega’s Veterans Day parade and music festival, while supporting Ranger veterans—creating a weekend atmosphere that’s as meaningful as it is memorable. Active-duty Rangers often line up at the start, lending authenticity and esprit de corps to the event.

Runners appreciate the strong organization and rewarding course:

“Courses will be clearly marked… food and beverage including wine and beer”

While physically demanding, the half marathon remains accessible and well-supported, with USATF-caliber services in a wilderness setting.

Why You’ll Love It

  1. Run where Army Rangers train: Authentic forestry terrain with real military heritage.
  2. Veterans Day weekend energy: Parade, music festival, and camaraderie woven into the race experience.
  3. Mix & match challenge: Combine distances via the “Ranger Challenge” for added bragging rights.
  4. Well-organized and supported: Clear marking, timing, and finish-line amenities.
  5. Scenic and rugged course: Mountain views, forest trails, and meaningful purpose behind every mile.
Course Description

This event uses all the same forestry roads the US Rangers train on. Tough YES, but not too tough for runners capable of covering the 13.1 miles. This course starts and finishes on the airfield at Camp Merrill. Almost all of the half marathon course is off-pavement on service roads that curl through the Appalachian Mountains, only feet from the Appalachian Trail.
