Overview

Brace yourself for high-altitude excitement at the Annual Ruidoso RunFest, held amidst the scenic Sacramento Mountains. Rooted in community spirit and organized by Village of Ruidoso Parks & Rec, this two-day festival caters to all—offering a Schlotzsky’s Bun Run 5K, Kids 1K Mini Run, marathon, half marathon, and the epic 47K/50K ultra—New Mexico’s only road 50K event.

Race Weekend Rundown

  • Friday, July 18 (Wingfield Park):
  • 5K Bun Run (6 PM) & Kids 1K Mini Run (6:45 PM). A beloved tradition celebrating over 25 years—earn a fun bun-themed medal and tee, and spring into race weekend with live music, food trucks, and a beer garden.
  • Saturday, July 19 (Fort Stanton):
  • 47K/50K Ultra (6 AM), Marathon (7 AM), Half Marathon (7:30 AM). Courses start/finish at the historic Fort Stanton with breathtaking views of the Capitan Mountains. Expect challenging but rewarding climbs, some steep, offset by long downhill stretches. All races must wrap up by 2 PM.

What Makes It Unique

  • High-altitude adventure: Courses start around 6,920 ft—elevating both scenery and challenge.
  • Saturday ultra debut: Unique 50K option for road ultra-seekers, limited to 50 participants.
  • Community & festival feel: Family-friendly Friday night opening, live music, food trucks, beer garden, and awards with fun swag and local flair.

This isn’t just a race—it’s a mountain celebration of endurance, community, and altitude-smart racing. Whether you’re chasing a road PR or testing ultra limits, the festival vibe, charming small-town hospitality, and high-elevation setting make it a memorable summer destination.
