Overview

Sunday, April 27, 2025 marks the debut of the PNC Alexandria Half Marathon, a reimagined iteration of the iconic Parkway Classic, now renamed and revamped for spring. Produced by Pacers Running and sponsored by PNC Bank, this beloved regional tradition now combines Old Town charm and canal-side running panorama with a certified Half Marathon, 5K, and Kids Dash for a family-spirited race weekend.

???? What to Expect

The Half Marathon and 5K both begin at 7:30 AM EDT (Half now likely reverts to a 7:00 AM start in 2026), starting on King Street in front of City Hall and ending near Oronoco Bay Park. The route includes nearly 10 scenic miles along the George Washington Parkway, offering spring blooms, Potomac vistas, and peaceful national park ambiance intertwined with historic Old Town streets.

Five aid stations, chip timing, pacers for multiple target finish times (including 1:30 through 3:15 pace teams), and multiple corrals ensure smooth flow. Dogs are not allowed on the half course, but strollers are permitted in the 5K. Both races are USATF certified and ideal for PRs or virtual participation.

???? What Makes It Unique

Transforming Alexandria’s Parkway Classic into this half marathon reinvents a beloved spring tradition. With support of the Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club, it balances elite ambition with community spirit. Post-race festivities include a beer garden by Port City Brewing Co., free race photos, technical gear, and memorable medal finishes by the waterfront.

The PNC Alexandria Half Marathon & 5K seamlessly bridges Alexandria’s scenic urban charm, Parkway woodland running, and community legacy. Whether chasing a personal best, enjoying spring scenery, or taking part in a charitable weekend, it delivers polished production and regional pride in one unforgettable race experience.
