Founded in 2022 by Free Beer Events and Erratic Ale Co., the Holiday Hustle Half Marathon has quickly become a festive December favorite. Held each year in early December (this year on December 7, 2024), the event builds on Free Beer’s popular 5K tradition in Dexter.
The point-to-point course starts and finishes at Erratic Ale Co., leading runners onto the scenic Border-to‑Border (B2B) Trail through Hudson Mills Metropark. The mostly paved, slightly rolling terrain winds through forested riverfront paths and open parkland. Aid stations are thoughtfully spaced along the route, with volunteers and cheering spectators adding buoyant support. At the finish, runners are greeted by a cozy post-race atmosphere featuring fire pits, brewery pours, and local vendors.
What sets this event apart is its blend of trail-like scenery and small‑town charm, plus the brewery-hosted finish that feels more like a holiday block party than a race. Unlike many winter races, the midday start (11 AM) ensures comfortable temperatures and a relaxed schedule. Though still young, it’s already attracting a mix of recreational joggers and competitive runners seeking PRs on its flat-to-rolling path.
In addition to the half marathon, the weekend features a 5K, 1-mile fun run, and a 13.1-mile relay, making it a race‑weekend destination for families and groups. While not officially tied to a charity, the event benefits community spirit and local businesses. As one recent runner shared on Instagram: “Best post‑race brew after a chilly run on the trail—perfect holiday vibes!”
