Overview

The Corporate Cup brings a team-based twist to the half marathon format, making it one of the most unique race experiences in the region. Companies and organizations enter teams, and the collective energy of running with coworkers — and against rival companies — gives the event a competitive edge that solo-entry races can’t replicate. It’s part athletic event, part team-building exercise, and the finish-line atmosphere reflects that dual identity.

The course is designed to be accessible to corporate teams of mixed ability, which means it’s generally fast and forgiving — a good choice for runners of all levels. The team scoring component adds a layer of strategy: do you push for your personal best, or pace yourself to support a teammate who’s running their first half marathon?

The Corporate Cup draws a loyal returning crowd of companies that make this an annual tradition, and the race organization reflects years of experience catering to group logistics — from team registration to coordinated start corrals. If your company is looking for a race to enter as a group, or you want a half marathon with built-in camaraderie, this is worth putting on the calendar.

Course Description

From the starting line on Tryon Street near the park known as The Green, runners follow a loop course that follows roughly a clockwise direction through the city, first running through downtown along Tryon Street, West Boulevard and Mint Street for about the first three miles.
The course next turns onto East 3rd Street and takes a downhill stretch, taking runners along 3rd Street and then Providence Road for the next two miles or so.
Runners stay on Providence Road, following it around the southernmost point the race as they make their way through mile markers 8 and 9, which take the field around the southern end of Myers Park Country Club. The course turns next onto Queens Road and begins the last three miles of the race, all the way back to the finish line downtown.
The course time limit is 3 hours for the half marathon and 1 hour for the 5K run/walk.
