Overview

The 5k course is gently rolling, scenic, relatively flat, fast, and takes participants through open country and past neighborhoods and parks. It has a downhill finish, offers you a great chance for a PR, and a tune-up for marathons. Courses are out and back and offer a safe route well marked by Area Wide Protective. Cheer Stations will be along the route to encourage runners and walkers! The 5k course starts at 7:30am, the fun run course starts at 7:45am, and both close at 9 am. For more details and registration information, please see our event page at https://www.brazosvalleymuseum.org/buffalo-stampede. Early registration is encouraged to secure a spot and take advantage of discounted rates.

Course Description

The course proceeds southeast all the way to Harvey Road, where runners turn right and head southwest along Harvey until they reach Copperfield Parkway, where they turn right again and head northwest.
This stretch of the race, as runners are nearing the mid-way point of the course, takes runners past Brazos County Park as they make their way along University Drive, which leads into the Texas A&M campus a few miles to the southwest.
Runners turn right and head north along the frontage road that runs parallel to the Earl Rudder Freeway (Highway 6), until they reach the half marathon turnaround point — here, they make the turn and head back along the exact route they’ve just covered, in reverse all the way back to the museum for the race finish line.
Race organizers describe the course as alternating between stretches with “gently rolling” hills as well as “fast and flat” stretches, and the final couple of miles unfold along an overall downhill descent into the finish.
