Overview

Boston’s Run to Remember Half Marathon & 5-Miler is a meaningful Memorial Day weekend tradition that honors fallen military service members, law enforcement officers, and first responders. Held each May in Boston, Massachusetts, the race takes runners on a scenic tour of the city’s waterfront and historic neighborhoods, combining a first-class urban course with a deeply respectful purpose.

The half marathon course starts near Seaport Boulevard and winds through some of Boston’s most iconic areas, including the waterfront along Boston Harbor, stretches through South Boston’s residential streets, and views of the downtown skyline. The route is mostly flat with a few gentle inclines, making it a fast course in a city better known for the punishing hills of the Boston Marathon. Late May weather in Boston typically brings comfortable temperatures, and the harbor breezes along the waterfront sections keep runners cool.

What sets Boston’s Run to Remember apart is its emotional weight. The race honors those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and many participants run wearing the names of fallen heroes on their bibs. The atmosphere is both celebratory and solemn, with strong crowd support from the patriotic Boston community. With several thousand runners participating across both distances, the event has grown into one of Boston’s premier spring races. For runners who want their miles to carry deeper meaning — and who want to experience Boston’s waterfront on a fast, scenic course — Run to Remember is an unforgettable Memorial Day weekend race.

Course Description

The course for the race unfolds through Boston’s wealth of historic sights and streets, taking runners from the start at the Seaport WTC past Boston Harbor and across the Longfellow Bridge over the Charles River, meanwhile running past the gorgeous, green grounds of the Boston Common and Public Garden.
In the second half of the race, the course takes participants along the river to Harvard University and within view of Boston University and Fenway Park across the river.
Mostly fast and flat (with the exception of a few hills and bridges), the race is run entirely along Boston’s city streets, with the largest portion of the race taking place along historic Memorial Drive, with ample views of the city skyline and plentiful areas for spectators cheering you on.
The event’s five-mile run follows the same course as the half-marathon until reaching the intersection of Cambridge and Charles Streets, where those running the shorter race turn left and complete the last stretch of the half course before finishing back at the Boston Seaport.
