Overview

The Bearathon Half Marathon & 6K is a spring tradition in Waco, Texas, hosted by the Baylor University community and drawing around 2,000 runners each year. The race starts on Baylor’s stately, tree-lined campus and takes runners on a scenic tour of Waco along the Brazos River, crossing bridges and winding through the city’s revitalized downtown and riverfront parks.

The half marathon course is mostly flat, following the Brazos River for extended stretches before looping through Waco’s neighborhoods and returning to campus. Runners pass landmarks like the Baylor Bear Habitat, Cameron Park, and the historic Waco Suspension Bridge. March weather in central Texas can range from cool to warm, but the early start and riverside breezes help keep conditions manageable. The course’s flat profile and smooth roads make it a solid choice for runners chasing a PR.

What gives the Bearathon its distinctive character is the Baylor spirit that infuses the entire event. The “Sic ‘Em” energy of the Bear faithful is on full display, with spirited aid stations, green-and-gold everything, and a finish-line celebration that feels like a campus homecoming. Waco itself has experienced a renaissance in recent years, and runners can explore the Magnolia Market district, local restaurants, and the growing arts scene before or after race day. For runners who appreciate college-town atmosphere, Southern hospitality, and a flat riverside course in the heart of Texas, the Bearathon is a standout spring half marathon.
